Lisa Craig-Fenwick will present a recital of music for the pedal harp at 4pm Sunday January 25, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Church on Church Street in Cortland, NY. The recital will include Glinka's Nocturne, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov, Minstrel's Adieu by Thomas, selections from Bernard Andres Spices, Aeolian's Harp by Godefroid, Angelus by Renie, Two Guitars by Wood, music by O'Carolan as well as Pavanne from an unknown 16th c. composer, Greensleeves, and a selection of traditional Scottish music arranged by Kim Robertson.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Originally trained as a flutist, Lisa Craig Fenwick was drawn to the harp when playing in a flute and harp duo. Lisa began her harp studies on the gentle but powerfully evocative lever Celtic harp, but her profound love of the harp drew her to study the pedal harp as well.

Lisa has performed on her harp for numerous weddings and public and private events throughout the region. She has performed as a soloist twice at Beginning in the Middle Harp Conference in Virginia, at Hospice of Ithaca, Johnson Art Museum on several occasions, Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, Paleontological Research Institute, Benefit performance for Community School of Music and Arts, at Blue Frog Coffeehouse for Cortland Classical Music Festival, Kendall of Ithaca, Lifelong of Ithaca, Glenora Winery, John Elizabeth Inn, Six Mile Creek Winery, Sheldrake Point Vineyards, Professor Emeritus Dinner at Cornell past 3 years, Alterra House and numerous other nursing homes. Lisa has played private functions at Statler Hotel, Fountain Bleu, Lawrence Chapel, Glenora Winery, Benn Conger Inn, 3 years for Winter Spiral Celebration at Waldorf School Initiative as well as with harpist Melissa Collins for the Binghamton Madrigal Choir, Ithaca Festival and Somerset Folk Harp Festival as a lobby performer. With the group Harps on Susquehanna Lisa has performed for Always on Sunday Concert series in Owego and at First Fridays in Binghamton. Lisa has also performed as a soloist for the past 3 years in Georgia at the HarpArts Retreat.

Lisa will also present a solo recital on Sunday, Feb. 15 in Owego, New York as part of the Always on Sunday Concert Series sponsored by the Tioga County Council on the Arts.

Lisa holds a degree in music performance in flute from Boston University's School for the Arts. In the past Lisa has served as an adjunct flute professor at SUNY Cortland, as director of the Community School of Music and Arts in Ithaca and as Executive Director for the Tioga County Council on the Arts. For 13 years Lisa ran a music program for young children called Kindermusik of Ithaca. She is currently focusing on the harp as well as running her private teaching studio where she teaches flute, harp and piano for children. She has been on the faculty of the Community School of Music and Arts for 20 years.

In 2008 Lisa received an S.O.S. grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts for a 2 week mentorship program to go to Georgia to study with harpist Lynne Aspnes.

Lisa currently studies with Russian-born harpist Victoria Kinney and for the past three summers has attended the HarpArts Retreat run by Lynne Aspnes in Georgia. Lisa has also had the good fortune to have studied with Myra Kovary and has enjoyed occassional private lessons at various harp festivals with many wonderful harpists including Robbin Gordan-Cartier, Kim Robertson, Ella Szmyt and Chilali Hugo. This concert is presented by Cortland Music and the Cultural Resources Council
